Super eagles to camp in Zim

Nigeria's Super Eagles are expected to camp in Zimbabwe few weeks before the 2013 Afcon kicks off in South Africa on January 19.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee chairman, Christopher Green, revealed to supersport.com that "the team would open a camp in Zimbabwe from December 7."

"We have qualified so we only have to continue with our programme by preparing for the finals in time.

"The team would open a camp in Zimbabwe from December 7, and would fly straight to South Africa from there," he disclosed.

"We are building a team and we will be ready for the best by the start of the competition."

Green also praised the Super Eagles for showing the right attitude to decisively see off Liberia and qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

He told supersport.com that the players were determined to avoid the mistakes that cost them the 2012 ticket from repeating itself, and in doing so, sent the right signal.

"The players were hungry for victory and played as if their lives depended on it," he said.

"They left nothing to chance and that was their attitude on the pitch, as they clearly wanted to make up for missing the last edition.

"The early goal opened the floodgates and from then, it was more or less a practice session for them.

"It was a huge relief because a lot would have happened had we not qualified.

"I feel the pain of Cameroon who would be missing out for a second consecutive time," he added.

Green said the Eagles have also displayed their readiness to take on the continent's best, and would soon intensify their preparations for the tournament.

"I have always maintained there are no minnows in football any longer, so no teams could be tougher than those we have beaten to qualify," he said.

"Cameroon could not overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit against Cape Verde, and Egypt did not even get this far, and these are some of the best sides in Africa."

Nigeria eliminated Rwanda and Liberia to qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The draw for the tournament will be held on October 24 in Durban.
