To say that UEFA saw right through Jose Mourinho's tactics in getting his players yellow carded to enable them to play the knockout stages of the Champions League is to over-rate them. He asked the Gunners mentor to seek words to explain why they have not won a single trophy since 2005.
That truth is not one to be said just like that and to the man of the stature of Wenger. "The history about the young kids is getting old now. On this one, I have been politely trying to put it across as the reason Arsenal won't be drawing my interests soon. The team has reached a ceiling and people think they need to mature.
The Gunners have come of age and they will not be getting a gear up soon. They now need to depend on others losing a gear, but Mourinho could have chosen kinder words.
