Highlanders bows to Dynamos

Highlanders 0 Dynamos 1.

A textbook trick of inviting Highlanders for a game that never was paid off as Dynamos overcame early Highlanders pressure to pick pocket the $40 000,00 winners' cheque and a ZAOGA 50th Anniversary Cup in Harare yesterday. Bosso were a better team and superior in that match but their conversion rate was pathetic and hence were duly punished by an Evans Gwerekwere strike.

Dynamos had to hold on to the dear cup as they clung to the first half lead. Man of the moment,Menard Mupera was in good spirits and could have done better as Bosso tore Dembare apart earlier in the match, but goalkeeper Washington Arubi was ready to deal with the threat. The post also came to the rescue of Dynamos as much as did Arubi several times.

The same that was with Dembare effectively eluded Bosso as an opportunist Gwerekwere stole it for Dembare within minutes to half-time. A bad call of judgement by Brighton Dube just outside the penalty box was enough to invite trouble as Gwerekwere hit a snap shot to the delight of the 7 million people.

Highlanders dug deep to rescue the match and the money of course, but the Mbare guys were like muggers running away with the loot. The moment of truth came when Joel Ngodzo drew the keeper off his line and squared the ball to Protasho Kabwe who ballooned  his effort overbar with about 10 minutes remaining.

Highlanders have an opportunity to save face when they play Caps United in the BancABC Cup later this year. They are likely to book that ticket after they walked over Dembare in the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday. While Dembare may protest the walk-over, as they usually do, there is little chance they will attract any sympathy from anyone this time around. Despite the defeat, Bosso walked tall for their performance and their found new found form under Mkhuphali Masuku is likely to continue in the league as they are gunning to finish the season on a high note.
