AFCON 2012 qualification weekend started with good, bad and amazing results. Malawi beat Chad 6-2 and are trying to close in on leaders, Botswana. It seems Africa perennial power-houses, Tunisia will lose out as former minors are standing up to be countered.
Senegal were rampant against Mauritius whom they blasted 7-0. While Indian ocean Islanders are no great footballing nation, 7 goals was a little bit too harsh. Tanzania huffed and puffed in front of their home crowd and fell back in the closing minutes of the first half when Chamakh headed a killer pass for a fine finish by Mounir El Hamdaoui.
The Harambee Stars of Kenya drew 0-0 with the Cranes of Uganda at home. Kenya would have wanted to collect maximum points at home to make their job a little easier in their group. Worse off was Rwanda who lost 0-3 at home against Benin as well as the small island of the Comoros who sank 0-1 to Mozambique. Burundi gave The Elephants of Ivory Coast the initiative and suffered the home loss by the same scoreline.
Cameroon maintained their group's top position with a poor 1-1 home draw against the DRC. There were home wins for Burkina Faso over Gambia by a 3-1 margin and Angola beat Guinea Bissau by a single goal.
South Africa will be locking horns with Sierra Leone while Zimbabwe will face Cape Verde at home this afternoon.
