The Premier League Begins: Man City vs Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspurs opens the new English Premiership season against Manchester City this weekend. I tried not to support  any football team since I started coaching 16 years ago. I flirted with the seducing David Ginola's Tottenham Hotspurs, having been recruited by Glenn Hoddle earlier on.

My sympathises were also enjoyed by Portsmouth with Harry Redknapp at the helm. Manchester City had their share of me, I think because they are not United. When the 2010/11 season kicks off, City will be having any kind words from me. Arsenal tantalised me in the later part of the last decade. That excitement has faded badly. Spurs will enjoy my undivided attention and they must make it worth my while.

Manchester City are paying lots of monies to destroy themselves. They are collecting everything vintage to fake for huge sums. A collection of stars never makes the sun. It is the composition of components and chemistry that does the trick. The need to impress the paymasters and justify the price tags may be a problem Harry Redknapp's Spurs will be worried about.

The good thing is that City are not well organised. Carlos Tevez is still suffering post traumatic stress of the World Cup and has said he does enjoy football anymore. Craig Bellamy and Steven Ireland do not know whether they are coming or going. Emmanuel Adebayour thinks he has no future as the team is buying in bulk and wants to join Juventas. Robinho thinks he is done at City and wants to remain in Brazil with Santos.

As for the other issues of the new season, Arsenal will hard pressed to find a solid goalkeeper. Arsene Wenger is misfiring in all cylinders. Emmanuel Alimuna may leave and Fabianski is just pathetic. Why they did not get David James, only their to-be-disappointed followers know. They have a few fine finds like Frimpong. This will not help them. For once I will concur will former Manchester United blogger, Paul Parker, that it will be the same old Arsenal season, so near yet so far.

Arsenal are playing a Liverpool side that have a new Manager in a writer of many coaching manuals, Roy Hodgson. The players will be trying to justify their place in the team. The Gunners will be trying to show Cesc Fabregas that they will do all they can to win silverware and stop him thinking of Barcelona. Wenger himself will be shifting a tax bracket after penning a new contract and it should show why the Directors are backing him.

It will be hard for me to like Arsene Wenger while he is hopping from flop to flop. Manchester United will be playing Newcastle United at Old Trafford. As you follow the games, you can post your commentary for all people to see on http://thesporting.wordpress.com/ a Sports chatting blog where you will post comments in real time like on FB. See you there.
