And The Vuvuzela Came Home.

Vuvu sounds took their rightful place with a heartwarming Bafana Bafana performance and the return to the Football Cathedral of FNB Stadium. A lot of people had forgotten the sound and a few who were initially not so familiar with it had almost forgotten even the name. The vuvuzela was well at home on Wednesday night.

The new Bafana Bafana coach will not last long on his job. The reason is simple. He is a South Africa doing things right. He will achieve much in a short space of time and the administrators as usual, with fight for the same limelight space - kicking him out and bringing in an expatriate 'to consolidate and support the coach technically'.  Pitso is clever and he knows. I bet his contract took so long to conclude, so as to loot SAFA when this happens. I am not sure it's much for both of us. I will check the fine print.

Katlego Mphela brought Ghana on their knees with a goal just before half time. Teko Modise was benched. Steven Pienaar was 2nd captain. Siyabonga Sangweni was given the band when Aaron Mokoena was out. The coach sang praises for Sangweni. This means change has come big time in South Africa.

Dane Klate replaced Simphiwe Tshabalala who had a good game. Teko had been a permanent figure of the national team until the Ghana game. The coach wants to use Pienaar in his role, and Pienaar is headed for skippership. Teko has one choice. A stand-in skipper himself with a splendid record, he will wrestle his place back from Pienaar. Bafana are going places.

Frankly, Mokoena takes the flake of most Bafana defeats. This is because he does the correct things and positions himself well. He covers everybody and faces the final danger and takes the blame. Pitso seems to be listening to a lot of that unwarranted criticism that is not technical. The Captain does a sterling job for Portsmouth which also expose him. With Pitso, he has a foot out of the Bafana set-up.
