Chelsea Tops Premiership With Solid Display.

Chelsea beat Wigan Athletic by half-dozen goals, a feat they achieved with ease against weak West Bromwich Albion last week, to top the Premiership standings for the second week in this new Premiership season.
Flourent Malouda and Nicholas Anelka (twice) scored in each half against a resolute Wigan Athletic. James McCarthy and Hugo Rodallega played very well supported by Charles N'zogbia but it was not enough to keep Chelsea from inflicting a painful defeat, following their 0-4 drubbing by Blackpool last week.
It is always a 'men at work' like attitude that Chelsea will dismember the opposition with assurance and their victims always feel nice after the abuse. Wigan were not really out of it as reads the scoreline, but the class of Chelsea was obvious.
Wigan started strongly pushing forward and denying the Champions the space to play. They wasted a few chances themselves with lame attempts at goal that did not bother Petr Cech, especially in the first half.
Bosseli thought he had scored when he pounced on a rebound after Cech failed to handle a stinger from Wigan. The assistant referee correctly ruled out the effort. Wigan began pressing forward seeing possibilities of a goal. Chelsea did not lay back themselves, with Didier Drogba fancying a hat-trick but found himself surrounded by 4 men. On occasions he was free, he was terrible in his touch, understandably because it was always a surprise when the ball came to him.
Drogba put an overall Man-Of-The-Man performance when he unselfishly laid a cross for substitute Salmon Kalou to tap in past a sprawling goalkeeper Kirkland to give the Blues a comfortable lead, reaching double figures in 2 games goal tally. An icing on the cake was his cross that Kalou finished with aplomb for his double.
Yousi Benayoun scored an injury-time goal when the Chelsea rout finally ended. Is this to say the Championship Trophy will be at Standford Bridge or Manchester United will stop them?
