Premiership: Chelsea And Manchester City In Great Home Wins.

Didier Drogba and Alex scored for Chelsea as the time to separate boys from men came face to face with Arsenal and they failed the men test. There was deserved celebrations at the City of Manchester Stadium as Man City dispatched Newcastle by a 2-1 scoreline. Liverpool were a usual disappointing lot of nowadays with a humiliating loss to Blackpool. The Reds sank 1-2.

The weekend that so a sensational 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur victory over Aston Villa in a Backlays English Premier League at White Hart Lane is characterised by Manchester United's worst performance in years. The Red Devils failed to cope withe pedestrian pace of the match and Sunderland were very unlucky to drop the 2 points.

The Premiership teams are getting their rhythm now and a true picture is emerging. It is usually for late surprises and surges by teams and average teams like Spurs, Villa and Everton will do themselves a lot of favours to garner points now. Ruthless Chelsea, toothless Manchester United and spent Liverpool are great side still to hit their peak.

European championships are taking their toll but good teams must have the depth and wits to come out unstuck. Spurs have the mantle and pedigree to do well. They have the players and coach to deliver. Their inexperience in dealing with a congested fixture will lower their potential level of performance by the divided attention.

Do you think Arsenal are on the right track?

The rest of the results: Chelsea 2 - Arsenal 0, Liverpool 1 - Blackpool 2, Man City 2 - Newcastle 1, West Ham 1 - Fulham 1, West Brom 1 - Bolton 1, Stoke City 1 - Blackburn 0, Birmingham City 0 - Everton 2, Wigan Athletic 2 - Wolverhampton 0.

Bosso Kills Off Caps United In ZAOGA Charity Shield Match.

Highlanders Football Club of Bulawayo inched closer to a ZAOGA 50th Anniversary Charity Shield when they beat Caps United of Harare, booking a ticket to the final on the 31st of October 2010. They beat the Harare giants 2-1 after a penalty shoot-out.

The Shield with a prize money of $35 000 and $15 000 for the winners and losing finalists respectively, will do Bosso a lot of good as they try to beef up their financial coffers. They need to pay the players and coaching staff, as well as the swelling debts that are shooting through the roof.

Themba Ndlela was full of praise for both the team and his technical department for pulling off such a crucial result. The match had to be decided from spot kicks after a 1-1 regulation time scoreline. Bosso will face either reigning league champions, Gunners or Dynamos in the final.

Manchester U Beats Liverpool as Chelsea Continues Being Ruthless.

Manchester United  pulled one from the bag to pocket 3 points against a better Liverpool side that was nonetheless shocking in their defending. The Reds shaky start was characterised by the static defence that seemed to be perplexed by crosses on countless occasions. Manchester won 3-2, Berbetov scoring all three for United.

Dimitri Berbetov was superb as evidenced by his excellent acrobatic goal that was donated by Pepe Reina, Liverpool goalkeeper. Berbetov proved to be a powerful and strong target man who United will need to chase the champions. The class of the Bulgarian was always a media concern when the expectations were misplaced on his goalscoring abilities. This eventually weighed on the man until he decided to stop caring and now he is proving the point.

Pepe was generally poor as he was flat-footed more than once and was deep rootedly planted when admiring the acrobats and flight of the Berbetov lob. It was the same story with the form of off-form Fernando Torres. I never had doubts about his scoring ability but I have always waited for him to prove he is not over-rated. This match did not help his cause in that regard as he toiled all day without producing much except for winning the penalty.

The cool-headed Steven Gerrard did well to convert the penalty and free-kicks to give Liverpool hope to collect a point. The Red Devils were on over-drive as Nani crushed the crossbar in the first half. Wayne Rooney was anonymous, taking all the defenders' attention and leaving room for Berbetov to shine with a hat-trick.

Chelsea were ruthlessly rampant as usual, routing Blackpool with 4 first half goals coming from double scorer, Flourent Malouda as well as Salmon Kalou. Super Didier Drogba was in sublime form as he provided assists and unselfishly fed his wasteful teammates. He lost his touch from working in overdrive for 90 minutes as he wasted a few glorious chances he usually converts with his eyes closed.

Blackpool for their part, not conceding in the second half was a very notable achievement that they have to build on. They were a wasteful lot and had glorious chances they fluffed. At least they have something to build on.

Manchester City came to the party with Carlos Tevez turning on the music. An average dink over the goalkeeper was a superb opening goal of the class we know Tevez can be. Wigan were never going to match City who came from a good mid-week Europa win.

Arsenal were helpless yesterday huffing and puffing and finally surrendering the lead to Sunderland. Cesc Fabregas put the Gunners ahead with a very lucky goal. Ferdinand's attempted clearance hit Fabregas so hard and went over Ferdinand's head. flying over 40 yards lobbing over the goalkeeper. Darren Bent had the last word in the last-minute with an equaliser with the last kick of the match.

The match of the week, was, of course, Tottenham Hotspurs who overcame a stubborn Wolverhampton. Wolves were almost running away with the match with 15 minutes to go, when Spurs decide to put things to order. A three goal salvo was enough to silence Harry Redknapp's critics, at least for now. The doubting Thomases will find it hard to accept the ascendance of Spurs, which is very slow but very much alive. The nay-sayers already compare Spurs to the top four teams. They are not yet in that league, but they are surely on the right track.

Manchester United Drop Points As Champions, Chelsea Keep 100% Record

Manchester United were disjointed coming off a huge scare when Everton scored first after Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs drew the best from American goalkeeper Tim Howard. Van de Saar also had to make stunning saves.

South African magician, Steven Pienaar scored a simple tap in after a quick counter attack penetrated the Man U defence like a spear through thin summer air. Fletcher equalised for the Red Devils and Nemanja Vidic headed a solid ball past a sprawling Howard. The great Scholes set up Dimitri Berbetov with an incisive pass of high quality.

The old Manchester United may have been home and dry when the 4th official lifted the board to indicated the dying minutes of the injury time. Australian Tim Cahill scored with a minute into injury time ad Arteka rescued a point for the Toffees with almost the last kick of the match, giving United a taste of their medicine.

Man U had a chance to win it with a corner kick they blew and Everton were never presented with the same opportunity when the referee blew the whistle with David Moyes' boys in full flight for the kill. Manchester are a gifted side that can afford to drop points and make up for them. That excellent and perfect squad will need something special to take the title out of the jaws out of the defending champions, Chelsea who maintained a 100% record in the league.Chelsea conceded their first goal of the season when they beat West Ham United 3-1 away. Michael Essien scored twice and Salomon Kalou the other.

Arsenal beat Bolton Wanderers 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal showed Theo Walcott's gnawing gap in the early exchanges, losing their rhythm and giving away possession cheaply. Lack of speed going forward was very obvious, with a few potential cross opportunities on the right being turned into a big fuss killing the attack momentum and being played back, instead of the fast paced cutting forward that Walcott provides.

Arshavin blew a few clearcut opportunities including one-on-one chances. A scrambled goal from wasteful Chamakh set the Gunners on their way. They had to deal with a spirited come back from Bolton. Arsenal eventually stamped  their authority in the match scoring the 2nd, 3rd form Chamakh and Carlo Vela and finally a classic from Alex Song in the dying minutes of the match.

The Manchester City millionaires had to fight to come back from a first half goal to score through veteran, Patrick Vierra at the City Of Manchester Stadium. Logically, Roberto Mancini is preparing his CV as we all know what we already know about working for big investors from Abu Dhabi. Benjani Mwaruwari was on the bench for Blackburn as they enjoyed this 1-1 draw away from home.

Asamoah Gyan of Ghana's Black Stars made his debut announcing his arrival with an important away draw for Sunderland. The most expensive player for his team scored in the 66th minute to endear himself to the club supporters and paymasters. Wigan equalised with 3 minutes of play remaining.

Other results Fulham 2 Wolves 1, Tottenham 1 West Brom 1 and Newcastle 0 Blackpool 2.

Do you think Man U will make up the lost ground?

Is The Premiership Gap Getting Bigger?

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]Manchester United vs Chelsea 1-1 (3-0 after pa...[/caption]

The English Premiership season has just began, with only 2 matches played and 36 more to play. There will be UEFA Champions' League and FA football to come. Only the present is here, and this is how it looks.

The Champions, Chelsea FC, have scored 6 goals in each of their 2 victories, the challengers Manchester United have only scored 5 and conceded 2 dropping 2 points, Arsenal, the pretenders scored 7 against 1 dropping 2 points as well while outsiders, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs are still to deserve any mention.

The opening 2 rounds of matches has seen a quartet of 6-0 score-lines, a 4-0 Blackpool win over Wigan Athletic as well as a 3-0 Manchester United victory over Newcastle. While the figures are interesting to the sports writers and the fans, they are worthy of a technical analysis.

Newcastle lost 0-3 to Manchester United and beat Aston Villa 6-0 a week later. Villa were 3-0 victors over West Ham United. It means the gap between the good and the bad getting big. Blackpool 's big win over an average team followed by a big loss from a top 4 team concurs with this.

West Brom bounced from a 6-0 defeat to beat Sunderland 1-0 who had a 2-2 draw against Birmingham City last week. Birmingham were 2-1 victors this week against Blackburn FC.

The results can basically be translated into something else, like this being a pre-season. It may reflect how much preparations time coaches had, or just the quality over the same preparation time. There is no doubt that Theo Walcott scoring a hat-trick is evidence of his maturity and better attacking quality in general and finishing in particular.

Chelsea scored their half-dozen goals without hitting full throttle. Poor defending abilities by their opponents was surely a contributor. Aston Villa in particular were pathetic in their efforts this week. The need for a respected head coach like Bob Bradley is urgent. The same can be said about the poor defending of Blackpool. They did not resist Arsenal at all.

Newcastle's creativity was obvious and the improvisation coupled with courage got them the goals. Arsenal were quite incisive and penetrative on the break. They increased speed in attack and their quick 1-2 passing created useful 1 v 1 situations with either the last defenders or the goalkeeper.

In both of their 6 star performances, Chelsea showed 2 faces. There were deadly with an individual Didier Drogba show in the first and then a patient orchestration by the same as he turned on the heat as the provider of killer passes, a statement of how he wants his supply.

Collectively, they exhibited a disciplined team that did not lose shape and frustrated their weaker opponents by making them run out of ideas. This created cracks at these teams' defences and allowed normal attacking movement to turn into dangerous opportunity easily converted by the mobile attacking players.

Manchester United for their part against Fulham, they tried a little too hard. They went into over-drive early on, overdoing their passing and losing possession easily in the process. This frustrated Hernandez and Valencia a lot while Barbetov as a veteran dropped deep to collect the ball and tried to slow things down. The issue was that he would have to release the ball to his fast-forwarded forwards.

Paul Scholes was not permitted to function his normal way by an educated Fulham midfield. The shining Manchester moments were of course thwarted by the in-form Stockdale who even went on to save a penalty from Nani. It is hard to see how much contribution Wayne Rooney could have made. He was not there and we will never know.

At this rate, the best thing for Manchester United fans better believe that it is a slow start by the former champions and they will be catching a 'will burn out' Chelsea somewhere along the way. In the mean-time, by the same token, Chelsea may as well enjoy the sun-shine while it last.

Manchester City beat Liverpool by 3-0 with Tevez scoring twice. These teams have not given much to write home about. Is this the year of Manchester City?

Manchester United Draw 2-2 With Fulham.

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]Fulham in white playing against Manchester Uni...[/caption]

Manchester United played Fulham at the Craven Cottage, but after they collected maximum points last week against Newcastle who they beat 3-0. Dimitri Barbetov, Hernandez and Valencia played a crucial role in supporting the main actor role of Manchester United's 'Mr Dependable', Paul Scholes.

Scholes latched onto a lay-off after a corner-kick, to score a trade-mark long-range shot that the goalkeeper should have dealt with 11 minutes into the match. They were matched man for match by a purposeful and patient Fulham. An equaliser came from a Davies first time shot from close range in the second half after a flowing move from the right.

United were made to continuously labour in vain by a systematic Mark Hughes coaches side, without any solution in sight to rescue the match. Bobby Zamora played with the maturity of a master, holding the ball well and waiting for support which was lean.

With 6 minutes left, a well taken Nani corner was deflected home by defender Hangeland. A few minutes later, Damien Duff, who was instrumental in the Fulham's first equaliser, was unlucky to have the ball strike his hand and a penalty was given. Nani stepped up to take the spot kick. The goalkeeper Stockdale dived low to his right to parry the effort out.

Hangeland had the final say when he majestically rose high to head powerfully past Van de Saar from a corner, with only a minute of regulation time left. Fulham had a penalty shout turned down by the referee and will feel poetic justice was done on both the Nani penalty miss and the penalty shout they had against Vidic just a minute before the goal. A frustrating day in the office for Sir Alex Ferguson as Man U drops 2 valuable points.

Newcastle came from the 0-3 drubbing by Manchester United last week to score 6 past sorry Aston Villa. It was always going to be bad for a team without a manager, but Villa did not help themselves when John Carew missed an early penalty, blasting it over the bar. Newcastle got more confident as by contrast, Villa heads dropped.

Newcastle were riding a confidence crest wave, Andy Carrol scoring a 3rd hat-trick of the new season after Didier Drogba and Theo Walcott, and Kevin Nolan had a double. This was a 4th 6-0 scoreline of this fertile season. Chelsea beat West Brom and Wigan and Arsenal against Blackpool.

Villa were 3-0 victors last week but never really looked like they were in it after the penalty miss. Ashley Young showed some determination in flashes but there is really need for a motivational head in the dressing room.
