Rest in ring pieces Paul.

One of the best things about this blog is the fact that it sends only positive vibes about life. For a moment I will have to musk that trademark tradition with the best excuse of the year, for everything ranging from football to the sin of illicit cohabitation, the 2010 FIFA World Cup. I will talk of fishy death, but first the other symbol of the world cup.

South Africa had the most comprehensive bid to host the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which was eventually hosted by Germany after some scandal equivalent to the selling of the 2018-2022 bid votes currently under investigation by FIFA. An Oceania non-cast vote from a New Zealander called Damn C resulted in Mzansi losing the vital spot. At that point, South Africa had shown it was more than ready to host the world showcase.

An even better bid plan was presented 2 years later and justice was meted and sanity prevailed. After all was said and done, the 2010 FIFA World Cup came amid all negative news about strikes, incomplete stadia construction, crime, inability of a black man to organise, cannibalism as well as short time expensive love on the streets of Jozi. A few journos had to go around looking for crime and very few were successful in finding it. As soon as the first whistle was blown, one cunning South African hater of the beautiful game made noise like a monkey that had picked up a whistle and the world caught the fever; iVuvuzela.

After all the noise and doubts about the Africans inability to organise the world's biggest show, all everyone could fault the continent's character was a Chinese plastic horn that cost less than $2,00 at the beginning of the tournament. It went on to cost $20,00 during and after. So grief stricken was the world that South Africa put up a show and a half, that every other confederation and association banned the instrument that makes far less noise than a Formula One car. No one is asking a soul to accept the vuvuzela and one commentator even tried to twist things and called it a 'vevezuela'. After all, it is not easy to blow. Anyway, there was satisfaction that the symbol of the African World Cup does not overshadow anything else anywhere.

Last week, the custodians of the instrument, the South African football lovers stooped to a low that could have had the world grinning ear to ear. Two mischievous Kaizer Chiefs fans failed to blow the Vuvuzela and decided to dump it on the field of play. Luckily, as we all know how much Zulus like meat, a Shaka descendant was disgusted at the site of this huge vegetable ball and he also dumped it in the field of play. The South Africa Premier Soccer League threatened to ban the vuvuzela and not the cabbage. To me, given my meaty background, a cabbage is a symbol of poverty which must be totally banned.

Owing to a special place in our hearts, the Vuvuzela can never be banned. Whatever the reason that led to the vuvuzela turning into a missile, you can rest assured it was the last you saw of it. The 2010 FIFA World Cup will ever be remembered for that horny instrument. It would have been so sad to see the legacy of the historic football event being eroded by 2 Amakhosi fans. The Chiefs boss, Kaizer, apologised and stated such will not be tolerated and must stop forthwith.

The South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup legacy instrument, was hand and glove with a mollusk of the deep seas, but then, a very sad and new chapter in our lives after the epic event hit the world early this week as well. As popular as the vuvuzela, Paul the Octopus rocked the world by random 'predictions' of match outcomes. He had an excellent report card scoring over 90 % success in his career as a 'chancerer'. The mollusk died after its 2 year life span his the mark. For the rest of the world, they mourned the 'hero' of the world cup and for some of us, we are going for calamari this weekend. If you are lucky to be served Paul's brains, it may be your chance to predict the Brazil world cup results, unless the Zimbabwe Warriors are involved. Then you may need to speak Malay or Thai to break into the match betting syndicates.

Rest in ring pieces Paul.

Cannavarro The Octopus.

It was such a surprise to see Italy exit the 2010 FIFA World Cup in such a big hurry. It will take a long while to understand that a man blessed with the enviable psychic gift of the famous Paul The Octopus, Cannavaro, is their Captain.

Fabio Cannavaro predicts John Terry being axed by Fabio Capello before the next England campaign. He foresees England doing better later on, endorsing the FA decision to keep Capello. That is rocket science and coming from Italia, we can only say "Priceless".

David Beckam's desire to see Ronaldinho in the LA Galaxy books is a visionary and progressive action Americans need to heed seriously. Few believe the Brazilian is spent. I think so too. His sale-by date is around the corner and he will do good for the MLS.

As soon as David says that though, I get a gut feeling he may be buying the whole American team. Afterall, Landon Donovan once accused Becks of stingy tendencies. It may not be a bad idea after all. What happened to Canadian born NBA star Steve Nash's ages old desire to buy Tottenham Hotspurs?

Plan B Twice And More.

South Africa is already patting itself on the back for a job well done. Why I like this, is that other countries are busy dealing with war, natural disasters, disease, poverty, political problems and self-righteousness to pay attention to the good work of others. There is none qualified enough to see and pay compliments than the hosts of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa.

Sceptics have had their issues inside out and made so much noise. I do not want to enter into that now, only to mention that for FIFA to say South Africa is Plan B for any FIFA party is an "in your mouth" kind of message to Africa's despisers. It has been always been Plan B from the day it was awarded the right to host this thing. As FIFA President Sepp Blatter always put it, "As South Africa will host the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Plan B is South Africa and Plan C will be South Africa." He went further to say lately, that no European country has the same quality of stadia architecturally in the league of South African infrastructure, "none", he repeated.

Anyway, I am tempted to sorry to the Germans for the loss to Spain. I will continue to support their motor industry nonetheless. I just wish they may save Paul, the Octopus. He just predicts and not cast spells. He predicted their losses and victories as well. If food is expensive back home, we can always have wild animal braai here in the veld. I hope "2010" the Cape python is not heading for the frying fan. I won't be having a lot of take away fish, just in case.

I have been firing blanks, thanks to lessons from Rooney and Messi. At least I found a R19500-00 (USD3000-00) per person hospitality tickets. All I need is someone to pay for them and I will watch the historic World Cup final. It must be snappy because there were only 9 tickets left. These tickets entitle one to a 5 star luxury hospitality tent just outside the Stadium, parking  and a  Category 1 seat. You know the Cat 1 ticket is R6200-00 (USD900-00) right? Do you think my wife is crazy thinking  there is much to the remainder of the money to let a man go in there alone? Food, parking, drinks, then what for R13300-00/USD2100-00? Eish!

The nay sayers may want to say something about the 7oo p eoplewho missed the semis of Spain and Germany in Durban yesterday. As FIFA and LOC put it, tough luck. There was so much air traffic with celebrities and politicians flying into the King Shaka airport for planes to land and get people to the stadium on time. 352 flights will be a handful for anyone anywhere anytime. So sad, but let's get there in time every time guys, please.

Hey guys, England are still in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. FIFA announced that Howard Webb of England is to referee final. There has been questions of Nelson Mandela attending the final. Please, please, and please, leave Madiba alone. Rather question my Spanish cousin who ran into the pitch, thankfully not naked, if he will be allowed another sprint of shame. He will be in court soon.

One football bit for your consumption. New Zealand and Holland remain the only unbeaten teams so far. They say Cape Town's Green Point Stadium witnessed 22 goals while Soccer City had 20. We will sure see one or more on Sunday.
